Talking About Women And Death Row
Kelly Sons To Schedule Speaking Engagements About The Women Behind Bars And Female Death Row Inmates

For 15 years, Kelly Sons has been educating, entertaining and enlightening readers with her writing, both online and in print. Now she is taking her vast knowledge of the freelance writing world on the road. Kelly will be making stops throughout the United States to discuss women’s issues and to raise awareness and promote her upcoming book about the women of death row.

Beginning in August 2007, Kelly will be speaking all over the United States to various organizations dealing with women’s issues, the true lives of women in prison, and the women of death row. She is also scheduled to visit many of the women on death row she has been writing since 1991.

Kelly began her writing career as a freelancer or national magazines, which eventually landed her a regular spot as a crime reporter and investigative journalist for local newspapers. Not only can Kelly be found hunting down the facts on the local crime scene, but she has also been published in prison advocacy publications.

Her love of writing and thirst for information doesn’t limit her to print and magazine writing, Kelly has steadily worked for various online venues as well. One of her most well known is her weblog, The Rural Writer ( http://theruralwriter.blogspot.com ) in which she details her passion for corresponding with the women of death row and the stories they reveal as well as delving into the world of freelance writing. It is through The Rural Writer weblog that Kelly discusses her thoughts and struggles with bringing her book to fruition. Not to go unnoticed is Kelly’s website dedicated to the women on death row, aptly titled Women of Death Row ( www.womenofdeathrow.com ). But Kelly’s writing talents don’t just stop at her activism for women in prison; Kelly has interviewed Dog the Bounty Hunter, and numerous professional bloggers for online publications.

The idea for the book came from Kelly’s own interest in a book about real life serial killers, Jennifer Furio's book "Letters from serial Killers” made an impact on her life and sent her in a direction she had not imagined traveling. From then on, she began corresponding with many female death row inmates, learning their lives, their fears, their hopes and sharing in their pain as she goes along. Though Kelly is interested in their stories, she states that the book is not about the women of death row, “It is for them.” She goes on to state that she wants people to know that, “these women are real people.”

Her speaking engagements detail the stories these women has shared with her and her experiences with them, good and terrifying.
